Apple CarPlay is awesome for using your favorite iPhone apps safely in the car. But sometimes you want a distraction-free drive, or maybe CarPlay isn’t playing nice with your system. Here’s how to turn it off.
Quick Fixes: Temporary Disabling
- Flight Mode: The fastest way to cut all connections is to swipe up on your iPhone screen and tap the airplane icon.
- Unplug or Forget: Unplug your iPhone’s charging cable, or if it’s connected by Bluetooth, go to your iPhone’s Settings > Bluetooth and “Forget” your car.
Remember, these are temporary fixes. CarPlay will restart when you disable Flight Mode or reconnect.
Longer Break: Forget Your Car
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay.
- Find your car and tap it.
- Tap “Forget This Car”.
You can still connect manually anytime through your car’s screen.
Stop CarPlay From Auto-Starting
CarPlay pops up when you don’t want it. Most car systems let you stop this:
- Open your car’s Settings menu.
- Look for a CarPlay, Projection, or similar section.
- Find the auto-start option and turn it off.
Extra Tips
- Your car’s settings usually offer more ways to manage CarPlay – what apps can connect, how the touchscreen works, and more.
- Update your car’s software! This often includes new CarPlay features.
- Stuck? Apple offers in-depth help on its CarPlay support page.
